Marshall Lee Smith Jr.

Marshall is a dynamic stage management professional with deep roots in the performing arts. Born and raised in sunny South Florida, his artistic journey began at American Heritage School in Plantation, where he performed in the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Symphony Orchestra, and Pit Orchestra. A skilled musician, Marshall became fluent in playing the Soprano, Alto, and Tenor Saxophones, Piccolo, Flute, and Bassoon—an experience that sparked his lifelong passion for live performance.

After studying at Liberty University and Kennesaw State University, Marshall discovered stage management through a friend in the arts. What began as a curiosity quickly turned into a calling. He immersed himself in the discipline—reading, researching, and connecting with seasoned professionals across Atlanta. His dedication opened doors to opportunities at community, semi-professional, and professional theaters.

Marshall has since built a diverse and thriving career, working with renowned companies such as Alliance Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, True Colors Theatre, Aurora Theatre, and City Springs Theatre, among others. His credits include the world premieres of BUST, PAPA DIDN’T TAKE NO MESS, THE MANY WONDROUS REALITIES OF JASMINE STARR-KIDD, and BEHIND THE MUSICAL: PREACHER’S WIFE featuring Amber Riley and Loretta Devine. He’s also had the honor of working with artists like Y’Anna Crawley, Tony Galde, and Nikki Snelson.

Marshall’s approach to stage management blends meticulous organization with a love for collaboration and storytelling. He thrives in fast-paced, creative environments and is always seeking innovative tools and techniques to bring productions to life.

In addition to his work on stage, Marshall is a passionate advocate for education and mentorship. He has served as a guest speaker at the University of Georgia and Synchronicity Theatre’s Stage Management Boot Camp, sharing his insights and experiences with the next generation of theater professionals.

Whether he's backstage, on tour, or helping to shape a new work from the ground up, Marshall brings energy, professionalism, and heart to every project.
